Non-additivity of Tsallis entropies and fluctuations of temperature

چکیده
We show that the non-additivity relation of the Tsallis entropies in nonextensive statistical mechanics has a simple physical interpretation for systems with fluctuating temperature or fluctuating energy dissipation rate. We also show that there is a distinguished dependence of the entropic index q on the spatial scale that makes the Tsallis entropies quasi-additive. Quasi-additivity implies that q is a strictly monotonously decreasing function of the spatial scale r, as indeed observed in various experiments. 1 permanent address: School of Mathematical Sciences, Queen Mary, University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS. The formalism of nonextensive statistical mechanics has been developed over the past 13 years as a powerful and beautiful generalization of ordinary statistical mechanics [1]–[4]. It is based on the extremization of the Tsallis entropies Sq = 1 q − 1 (

A Preferred Definition of Conditional Rényi Entropy
The Rényi entropy is a generalization of Shannon entropy to a one-parameter family of entropies. Tsallis entropy too is a generalization of Shannon entropy. The measure for Tsallis entropy is non-logarithmic. After the introduction of Shannon entropy , the conditional Shannon entropy was derived and its properties became known. Also, for Tsallis entropy, the conditional entropy was introduced a...
متن کاملQuasi-additivity of Tsallis entropies and correlated subsystems
We use Beck’s quasi-additivity of Tsallis entropies for n independent subsystems to show that like the case of n = 2, the entropic index q approaches 1 by increasing system size. Then, we will generalize that concept to correlated subsystems to find that in the case of correlated subsystems, when system size increases, q also approaches a value corresponding to the additive case.
متن کاملMonotonically equivalent entropies and solution of additivity equation
Generalized entropies are studied as Lyapunov functions for the Master equation (Markov chains). Three basic properties of these Lyapunov functions are taken into consideration: universality (independence of the kinetic coefficients), trace-form (the form of sum over the states), and additivity (for composition of independent subsystems). All the entropies, which have all three properties simul...
متن کاملQualms concerning Tsallis’s condition of Pseudo-Additivity as a Definition of Non-Extensivity
The pseudo-additive relation that the Tsallis entropy satisfies has nothing whatsoever to do with the super-and sub-additivity properties of the entropy. The latter properties, like concavity and convexity, are couched in geometric inequalities and cannot be reduced to equalities. Rather, the pseudo-additivity relation is a functional equation that determines the functional forms of the random ...
متن کاملUniqueness of Nonextensive entropy under Renyi's Recipe
By replacing linear averaging in Shannon entropy with Kolmogorov-Nagumo average (KN-averages) or quasilinear mean and further imposing the additivity constraint, Rényi proposed the first formal generalization of Shannon entropy. Using this recipe of Rényi, one can prepare only two information measures: Shannon and Rényi entropy. Indeed, using this formalism Rényi characterized these additive en...
